It also develops 1st Detect, a miniature mass spectrometer for use on the ISS; Astrogenetix, a microgravity processing platform used for developing drugs; and AirWard, a shipping container designed to meet the specific requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation to protect pressurized oxygen bottles from flame and heat during flight. The company was formerly known as SPACEHAB, Inc. and changed its name to Astrotech Corporation in 2009. Astrotech Corporation was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
